Fab 5: Sites for Spring Break Inspirations

It seems like the New Year just passed, and many of us are still digging out of a few late winter snowstorms, but believe it or not, Spring Break is right around the corner.  So now’s the time to start planning that big family trip you’ve been talking about since the beginning of the school year, and by starting early, maybe you can be a bit more creative in your destinations of choice.  Just because we’re parents, doesn’t mean all of our vacations have to include cartoon animals and roller coasters (not that there’s anything wrong with that)!  Sure, you can do a Google search to find the most “popular” Spring Break destinations, and end up reading through the same usual suggestions on the same usual websites.  Well, we suggest digging a little deeper, and just because this is what we love to do, we’ve started the digging for you.  We’ve found 5 fantastic travel blogs that will inspire, enlighten and engage your inner traveler while maintaining a family friendly focus, covering everyone from the budget traveler to the jet-set.

1.  Lonely Planet – What started as a travel loving couple typing up their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap, is now a full-on travel information destination.  You can search out travel guides for cities across the country and across the world, or find out the best tips for traveling in the Lonely Planet discussion forum.

2.  The Little Travelers – This is an adorable blog from the point of view of a mom and her kids traveling the world, and filming it.  There are some terrific photos and stories here to give you some inspiration, and DVDs of their trips are available for purchase.  There’s even a special Kids Blog section just for the littlest travelers!

3.  DeliciousBaby – Making travel with kids fun is what they’re all about at DeliciousBaby.  The blog covers destinations, with users asked to submit travel photos on Photo Friday, along with city guides and travel tips.  You’ll be sure to learn something new and find some new possibilities for your clan’s travel plans.

4.  Ciao Bambino - Founded by mothers who love global travel and want to take their children along, they have discovered fabulous places that are family friendly to share along the way.  Chock full of articles, advice, inspirations and tools, they also offer comprehensive reviews and ratings of hotels all over the world.

5.  Indagare – Finally, there’s Indagare, a community based, membership driven blog for the discerning and upscale travelers.  Definitely not for those looking for budget travel, but for those who truly like, and can afford the finer things (even the website comes with a fee).  Features include Paris with the kids and special programs like Gladiator School in Rome and Michelin Cooking Classes in New York for the little ones.

We certainly hope you come away inspired, and we invite you to look at our Top 20 Travel Planning sites and Top 20 Travel Gear sites to help you on your way.
