Sensational Sliders: Mini Burgers Get A Makeover!

Certain foods stand the test of time and The Hamburger is one of them. We're constantly amazed at the ways this classic gets reimagined, reinvented, dressed up, and fancified with new meats, cheeses, toppings, and breads (brioche buns, yum!)... The mouthwatering example pictured here is from Eclectic Recipes and features chipotle mayonnaise and avocado.

But as moms, we don't always have kids who are willing to experiment with pungent blue cheese, firey mustard, and other gourmet fixings.  Which is why we've found the best burgers for the whole family are updated versions of the old-fashioned, old-school burgers we loved as kids. Then, put out a spread of optional toppings so everyone can mix and match to their heart's delight.

We've also become huge fans of mini-burgers or Sliders. They're the perfect size for kids, and fun for adults too. If you're having a party or backyard barbecue, they are the ideal thing to serve up for a crowd.

 

This is the slider recipe handed down from Gigi, the amazing mom of DFM's President, Rita. Gigi's grandchildren have been known to scarf down 4-5 of these in a sitting! The burgers are simple ground sirloin with a sprinkle of salt and pepper, formed into patties about 2 inches in diameter, then sauteed in a mixture of butter and olive oil (grilling tends to dry them out). As for cheese, Gigi uses Kraft Singles and always has - it's pre-sliced, melts perfectly, and is a no-fail kid pleaser.

Of course, even the perfect slider burger needs an update now and then and we've got it - here are 10 new-fangled ways to deck out an old-fashioned slider. We're sure Gigi would approve!
